How to Insert, Edit, or Delete a Link

When working with content on the website, you can create links to items both within and outside of it.

Inserting a Link

  1. In the editing area, highlight the text that you wish to form the link.

  2. Click on the Insert/Edit Link button (Earth with a chainlink).

  3. In the resulting dialogue, you'll see three tabs across the top: "Link Info," "Target," and "Advanced."

  4. Under the "Link Info" tab, type or copy-paste the address (URL) of the page you wish to link to. It is also possible to link to an email address (not recommended) or a file such as a Word (.doc) or .pdf document. As appropriate, select "E-Mail" from the "Link Type" menu.

  5. To link to a file such as a .pdf or Microsoft Word (.doc) document, click on the "Browse Server" button. In the resulting dialogue, select the file from the file browser. If the file is not there yet, you'll have to upload it first by clicking on the "Browse" button at the bottom, where it says "Upload a new file in this folder." Select the file from your computer and then click on the "Upload" button. Give it time to upload and then click on the file once it appears in the list.

  6. When linking to a page outside of your own website, it's good etiquette to make the link open in a new window. To do that, click on the "Target" tab and select "New Window (_blank)" from the "Target" menu.

  7. When all information is set, click on "OK."

  8. The link will not be live until you save the page.

Editing a Link

  1. In the editing area, highlight the link text and click on the Insert / Edit Link button (see step #1 above).

  2. Alternatively, you can highlight the link text and right-click (PC) or Ctrl-click (Mac) on it, then select "Edit Link" from the resulting context menu.

  3. Make changes as necessary as per instructions above.

  4. Click on "OK" to save changes.

  5. Changes will not take effect until the page is saved.

Deleting a Link

  1. In the editing area, highlight the link text.

  2. Click on the "Remove Link" button (the grayer Earth / chain button to the right of the Insert / Edit Link button).

  3. Alternatively, right-click (PC) or Ctrl-click (Mac) on the highlighted link text and select "Remove Link" (above) from the resulting context menu.

  4. Click on "OK" to save changes.

  5. Changes will not take effect until the page is saved.
