Wycliffe McAllister

Wycliffe McAllister is an elementary school teacher in the New York Public School system.  He believes that teaching is a calling.  He began his working life as an 8th grade school teacher in his native country, Guyana.  Initially, he taught for three years before he enlisted in Guyana's military in 1976 in an effort to escape from the demands of teaching. However, after only four years in the military he was assigned to the military training school as an instructor.  He remained a military training instructor until 1991 when he was transferred to the Army's Academic Education Department where he remained until he retired in 2001.

During his sojourn in the Military, he completed a Bachelors of Social Science Degree (Communication) - 1986 to 1991, and a Post Graduate Diploma in International Relations -1996 at the University of Guyana and a Diploma in Public Affairs from the Defense Information School, Fort Meade, Maryland, USA - 1999.

Upon leaving the army he sought and gained employment at the United States Embassy in Georgetown, Guyana as the Political and Public Affairs Specialist.  He remained at the US Embass until June 2006 and then migrated to the United States to join his wife.

At the beginning of 2007, Wycliffe applied to the New York City Teaching Fellows Program and was accepted.  In August of 2007 he was formally thrusted into a fifth grade class at PS/IS 150 in Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York.  As a condition of being accepted and maintained in the Fellows Program, Wycliffe is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Childhood Education at Brooklyn College.

Hello Professor:

In keeping with the proposal I submitted my final project is a magazine titled: CANDID - The Voice of the People.

Most of the content of this magazine was researched on the internet.  A few article were adopted with minimum changes, in such instances the original authors were credited.

The manifesto of the magazine can be found on the back page: it explains the magazine.

I had more problem  than anticipated with this project.  Initially, it was my intension to use the PageMaker application program to put together the magazine.  However, my PageMaker application program apparently developed some glitches, therefore I had to turn to Microsoft Publisher, a program that I have used before; so I had to teach myself along the way.

The photographs used in the magazine are substitute.  Had this been a magazine intended for public consumption and not a demonstration magazine a different set and more realistic and relavant photographs would have been used.
