Welcome to my profile. I am currently enrolled in the MA English program here at Brooklyn College. I hold a BA in English, also from Brooklyn College. Years ago, I attended a woman's college in Lynchburg, Virginia, Randolph-Macon Woman's College, where I also majored in English literature. I've always been interested in all genres of literature, from the ridiculous to the sublime. Among my favorite writers are Jean Rhys, Richard Yates, Elizabeth Bowen, Edith Wharton, Henry James, and, more recently, Tom Perrota. I'm also very interested in the Middle Ages in English history, more specifically, the dark and dramatic side of the English Monarchy. I am a poet as well, and I enjoy discovering new poets but my great love of Imagist poetry is what drives the bulk of my work. Among my favorite poets are Robert Lowell, Anne Sexton, Sylvia Plath, Amy Lowell, Pablo Neruda--just to name a few. I have also recently become interested in American Folk and Impressionist art as well as the research and identification of artifacts and antiquities. Between 1998-2001, I was a staff writer for an Independent film magazine called Guerrilla Filmmaker and had the opportunity to interview Burt Young of the "Rocky" series of films, in which he played the role of Rocky's ne'er do well brother-in-law, Paulie. I'm currently working on a web log for my poetry and other works. On a personal note, I was recently married to my partner, Dave, in December 2007--our kids are furry and four legged...we have a sweet pit bull mix named Miles and a lovable black cat named Mingus. Miles, a registered Democrat and Obama supporter, is constantly fighting with Mingus--a proud, card carrying member of the Republican party and rabid supporter of McCain.  As you can probably tell by their names, another of my great loves is music. I'm always discovering new artists but for the moment I'm into Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald and Rosemary Clooney. I live in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn, but right on the cusp between the really nice, rich part and the part where it starts to get kind of dicey. I grew up in New York City, in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn; I've always felt a strong affinity for all things historical or vintage about this city. I'm also reading a book called Hudson that details the rise and popularity of the river as a commercial and cultural icon of New York state.
