Tanya Palmer is a graduate student at CUNY-Brooklyn College currently working towards the English M.A. with an emphasis on Theory and Criticism. With regards to her scholastic future, she is considering pursuing the Ph.D. in English.
Tanya accomplished her undergraduate studies at Penn State University, completing baccalaureate programs in English and Spanish with a minor in International Studies. Whilst at Penn State, she was required, as a Spanish major, to spend a semester in a natively Spanish-speaking country and chose as her hispanohablante: lovely, lovely Espana. She spent the spring 2000 semester at the Universidad de Salamanca, an architectural wonder. Intrigued by her experience in Spain, Tanya opted to also spend her senior year abroad and did so at Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia where she fed kangaroos, hiked a thousand gorges, and penciled in a class where she could.
Tanya is steadfastly passionate about a few things: English Literature (the Classics); Scrabble; teaching; traveling. She has made a lifelong commitment to engage in constant dialogue with the first; constantly improve her score and speed in the second; return to the third at some point (she has taught English and Creative Writing to seventh graders; Global History to ninth graders; and English Literature and Language to tenth and twelfth graders); and never stop doing the last. In addition to studying in Spain and Australia, Tanya has backpacked Italy, Switzerland, Germany, France, Malaysia, and Singapore and frequently visits her native home, Jamaica. She craves knowledge, but remains mindful that without wisdom, true living cannot be realized. To this end, she gives precedence to her Bible over all her (highly prized) texts. Tanya will be wedded in April 2009 and not only anticipates a simple, pleasant beach celebration in Jamaica, but is also looking forward to aging and learning with her then new husband and their not yet adopted labrador, Lady Mitsy.
