Christina Massie:
My proposal is to design a course that is related to the material we studied this summer. I feel picking this option would best suit me and relate to my everyday life as a teacher. One of the best ways I cna implement what I have learned from this course is if indeed I can teach it to fourteen-year old teenagers. I will also be able to see the material in a different light due to the fact that I have to present it in a different way. It will be a challenge to make plans that will continuously engage teenagers. This will force me to really internalize and re-evalutate what we have been discussing an dresearching. Picking this type of final project will benefit me in my understanding of the work.
Being a high school teacher, the material will be a challenge to the students but I do not think impossible. In my classes I have often challenged students to a wide variety of material and methods and as long as I was passionate about it the students were attentive. Based on my prior experiences teenagers can be very insightful and come up with some interesting analysis and interpretations.
I will lesson plan as if I was lesson planning during the year because I think that would most be useful if I was to teach this material in the future. The journals from the Modernist Journal Project will be able to engage students with the use of pre-reading, during and after activities. It will be important to link English with Math, Science, Social Studies and Art, which my principal highly encourages. Within the focus is to remember the CTT students and instruction wiwll vary according to different classes.
My objective will be to create a unit using the MJP that will aim to instill cognizance of literature they were unfamiliar with at the beginning of the unit. Furthermore, the students will be familiarized with journals. Something that will be far from them always computerizing all the time. This project will enable students to practice research skills and writing in which sadly to say high school students are very weak at doing and need all the practice they can get.
