Final Project Proposal

Final Project Proposal

My proposal for the final project is to write a research paper on Cubism, the most prominent art movement of the early 20th century.  As I was not that much familiar with this movement before entering this class, I will do research to find out the history of Cubism, and will investigate the passing of Cubism and its legacy on the art world.  I will use MJP as a source and will also study the analytic Cubism and critiques some of the style’s most well known paintings and sculptures.  I have studied thus far that Cubism is the most influential art movement to emerge in the first quarter of the Twentieth century.  It was one of the major transformations of Western art in this century and is seen as a revolutionary shift in thought and technique.

Cubism signaled a change in how art tackled society and encompassed the realm of life. In understanding the evolution of art and specifically examining the growth of cubism will allow for greater insight into the integral and ever-evolving nature of art. Furthermore, this paper will offer a deeper look into the precepts of modernism and attempt to characterize the aesthetics which enabled it to rise to prominence. Cubism can be seen as a metamorphosis of modernism in light of specific realities, namely social, political, religious, and cultural.

I will focus to answer these questions.

 How Cubism came about?
 Who pioneered the artistic field?
 What impacted this style?
What were some of its major tenets?
How did it differ from previous styles (look at them) and write about similarities and differences.

How did it change the perception of modernism?
Was it avant-garde art?
How did it attempt to address social ideas? How did it influence other movements (if it did  influence any)?
