For my research paper, I found myself drawn to the Irish culture during modernism. My paper's overarching theme or thesis will question the possibility of British influences on Irish periodicals, as well as subject matter within those periodicals. Is there is a distinction between the British and Irish discourse, or was there an imposed imperialistic viewpoint which links both islands?

      Through the study of authors who contributed to magazines such as Dana, I will explore the context of the articles published in the magazines, as well as advertisements within those magazines. I plan to examine the affects of a political discourse which may exist within the pages. Was the political discourse within magazines reflect both the Irish and English perspectives?

      To take my research further, I plan to examine the individual political and literary viewpoints of modernist Irish authors, specifically James Joyce and W.B. Yeats.

       Finally, I will research alternate viewpoints within the Irish magazine culture, distinguishing between more political publications that either favor Protestant/British Loyalist and revolutionary ideology of the IRA and Sinn Fein. As a very young man, my grandfather was part of the IRA, so it is of great interest to me to find publications, posters or handbills from that era.

       There is an interesting point of intersection of the modernist period breaking from tradition (a revolutionary act in itself) and Ireland's struggles for independence from the English, so I hope to use this as a framework for my paper.
